Isabella Corigliano - Artist Post 1

Troy Colby

1) Troy Colbys series "The Journey of Dreaming", is shot in black and white, with a black vignette, creating and old timely look to the series. Much like the rest of his work, these prints are large, starting at 18x12.

2) The photos that I have decided to use are part of a 15 piece series, titled "The Journey of Dreaming". Colby used his son as his subject to help capture the adventure of being young and creative. I feel that he was trying to express that your mind is your biggest prop, you don't need the craziest newest costume to create an adventure or dream for yourself. Even though he used his very young son as the subject, I believe that this idea of using your mind and imagination as a prop applies to adults. You can never let that creativity and inspiration for a dream/adventure no matter how old you may be or how little of "props" you have, die down. Your imagination is something you must never let go, but grow with.

3) Growing up in a generation with the mentality of always needing and wanting the newest and the best, this series of photos is incredibly important to me. What I pulled away from this that you don't need the greatest/ the newest to create your journey, your imagination, and that its also something you can't loose, regardless of age. Being an artist makes it easier for me to not loose touch with my imagination and my creativeness because, I am constantly practicing. Where many young adults have steered away from their imaginative side. Dreaming is something I find incredibly important in order to keep a healthy relationship with yourself, and I feel as if this series shows its importances.
