Maria Goodrick Artist Post 2

Noemie Goudal

1. Noemie Goudal is a French photographer. Her work is known for having a sort of magical realism to it. She often constructs large structures inside old, sometimes abandoned and rundown places to create her photos and then converts them into life size prints. She tends to use traditional chromogenic Lambda printing.
2. While her subject matter varies, Goudal seems to focus on the contrast between nature and what is made by man. This is meant to highlight the conflict between the two. In her most recent project, Goudal explores the concept of man made structures possibly trying to overpower nature, as shown by the first photo I have above.
3. These photos caught my eye because of how surreal they are. I have only heard the term "magical realism" in reference to literature, but an article I read about Goudal assigned that term to her work and I agreed. I immediately wished I could be in these pictures, looking around in awe. I enjoy the low saturation in her photos as well, it helps give it that ethereal feel.
