Diane Arbus
Diane Arbus was an American photographer who passed away in 1971. Diane's pieces were primarily portraits of people who were seen as not fitting the social norm: dwarfs, giants, transgender people, performers, etc. There is an exhibit, "Diane Arbus: In The Beginning", at The Met Breuer showing a hundred of her prints. This exhibit shows the first seven years of her photography career (1956-1962). In this series she used a 35mm Nikon.
I enjoyed her idea of photographing people that would be considered different and strange in that time period. Pushing the envelope and going against the social norms is a big part of our culture today and many of these same things are still being photographed today.
