Gerardo Nigenda began photography in 1999 with a Yashika pocket camera. Unfortunately he became blind at the age twenty-five. He did not let this stop him from making pictures. He chooses to work in only black and white since he himself cannot see color or much of anything.
I was drawn to his work from the his use of only black and white. Gerardo most pictures are not over exposed. He allowed enough amount of light in to brighten the picture even with it being black and white. I assume that he uses a shutter speed of 1/60 because his subjects are not moving. All of these pictures have a shallow depth of field because of Gerardo use of a large aperture.
My favorite pictures is the last one by Gerardo. I think his use of large apertures work well with his subjects and choice to only use black and white. His shallow depth of field makes you focus more on the subject and not become distracted by the meaningless background.
