Maureen is a photographer from New York City who teaches at LaGuardia Community College and the International Center for Photography in New York City.
The series I chose is Meet Me In The Green Glen which was published in January of 2016. This series shows the life of Ben, a marijuana grower in California. . Maureen writes, "I have been photographing him for nearly six years and the laws and stigma around marijuana culture have changed in California in the meantime." Each year Ben hires young men to come in and help him harvest his crop, they work for about a month. Maureen's series not only shows the land and Ben's work, but it also shows his social isolation out on his farm.
While the images of Ben themselve show isolation, you can also see it in the photos of the landscape. The images feel very distant and secluded. Many of Maureen's series follow the theme of being removed from civilization and being isolated or secluded.
