Jonas Feige
1. Jonas Feige is a German photographer from Frankfurt. For this post I chose photos from his project titled Nacht auf der Sonne which translates to "Night of the sun." Most of these photos are low saturated. They are somewhat dim, gloomy, and grayish in tone. All are taken in portrait frame. Some uses natural light which gives off this dusty feel to them.
2. Jonas Feige describes his photos as open to translation. He likes the paradox in photography in which it captures a sense of realism even some are manipulated and made up. Even some photos are fabricated, the fact that use a camera to capture does not deny the realism of the photos no matter how little they are. His usage of portraits for this project "isolates the subjects as he's stated in his interview with Melissa Catanese. Having them isolated makes the audience more on the intended subjects rather than landscape frame capturing everything in view.
3. What attracted me to Feige's photos is that I, too, like to take the same photos that he does. I take pictures of some of the most insignificant objects and scenarios that don't really make sense even after the pictures have been taken. I Just like how they look. I show them to other people and it is always interesting listening to their interpretations of the photos that have no deeper significance to me except the aesthetics.
