Julius Ayo Artist 2 post 1

Laurence Rasti

1. I don't really know how to describe these images as my photography knowledge is not that polished enough. I would say that some pictures are portraits of people, some are of landscapes. They are bright with what looks like grayish, light brown filters. Each picture has this sort of grainy projection that exudes this nostalgic feel to them.

2. This is from Laurence Artis' project called " Il n'ya a pas d'homosexuels en Iran" or translated as "There are no homosexuals in Iran." She focuses on parts Sharia LAw that criminalizes homosexuality in parts of the world like Iran. In some pictures you see couples trying to express their love for each other, but hidden. They hide behind bushes, trees, balloons. It always places and objects that seem so natural. I guess it is a way for them to express their feelings through things that seem "normal" so that they could be seen as such by the public and the law. In one picture, there is a park or a type of intersection where people are congregating. Although the city is empty, you cant see where the "homosexuals" are. They are part of the public, chameleons that blend into their environment.

3. I lived in the Philippines for the first half of my life and it is a third world country that is not as progressive as I would like it to be. I feel bad for these couples that could fully express themselves. Unlike the U.S. The Philippines is not as accepting of the lgbtq community. The pictures are beautiful in how it could portray love and identity in a country that is supressive.
