Sarah Ipson- Artist post 7
1. Helen Levitt did a series of children playing in the streets. All of the photos are in black and white and are taken mid- action of the children playing around in the streets. The photos were taken mid-action so you could see the real fun that the children were having, compared to posed fun when you could tell if the picture were posed and no fun being had.
2. Helen Levitt's approach was to show the livelihood of the children on the streets. The pictures range in the children's activities from hanging out with one or two friends, to playing tag and running on the street sides, to play fighting on mini roof tops. These children are just having innocent fun.
3. How does this make me feel? It makes me feel a bit giddy inside in all honesty, because it makes me wish that I was a child again with almost all of the freedom and nothing to worry about. When you're a child you don't have to worry about the real world and you still have the light in your eyes and a fire in your heart that can't be tamed, but as you get older sometimes that light dims and the fire starts to burn out.
