1. As you can see Horan alternates between portraits and
landscapes. He even goes as far as
taking Hasselblad photographs of the earth from Apollo in the series Visit to Earth. For his finalized
pictures of CHATTEL: A Portrait Study and
Life Everlasting he uses archival pigment
prints which are prints from a printer that uses pigment-based inks for fine
art purposes.
2. Horan’s ideology on how to take pictures is to reverse the
typical way of thinking. He had a photoshoot to capture the “souls” of goats,
he photographed these goats as if they were people. Although I find his goat
images very comedic, his intention for the images was executed very well.
When you google “Kevin Horan” the majority of the results
are about CHATTEL: A Portrait Study. Horan
might be known for his goat portraits but he has other intriguing works. The
second image comes from a series of images named Life Everlasting. This series is about celebrating death rather
than fearing it. As for the third image, it comes from the series Easy Travel To Other Planets. These
images are how ferries can appear as a vessel not of this earth. When I was
first looking at these images, I couldn’t make out what the picture was of
until I read the description.
Overall, Horan does an excellent job at achieving the goals
he has for his photographs.
3. My favorite part of his work is his approach on how to take
pictures. While his pictures are still based on the real world, it’s the real
world through a different set of eyes.
