Chevon McClenney- Weekly Artist Post

Jaime Permuth, a Guatamalan photographer was raised like others with many misconceptions about Cuba, the people and their way of life. While attending a photography conference, Permuth was immersed in the culture. In this series the photographer is possibly using several different lenses. Perhaps a wide angle lens to get into the small store fronts and spaces that he shoots. Permuth while focusing on people and portraits he also includes landscapes, intimate moments and environmental images that include people and set the scene so to speak. He also takes advantage of the unique color and texture of the decaying architecture found in Cuba.

I think this series was solely an exploration photo documentary project. Having the misconceptions he did growing up about Cuba, Jaime wanted to accurately capture his first experience in the country and answer the question "What and Who is Cuba?". I think it was a personal series and a by product would be educating others who are curious or have those same misleading ideals about Cuba as a whole.

This series of photos speaks to me because, I have always wanted to travel to Cuba especially after getting into photography. I hear its like a time warp, the people are warm and friendly and the architecture has so much character. I really hope that the relationship between the United States and Cuba grow so that more of us can experience Cuba and it's people.
