Cynthia Bowles- Weekly Artist Post

             VIVIANE SASSEN

This artist uses color and the background to highlight and simi disguise the subject. She probably has a tripod to prevent camera shake and uses a low ISO and a open aperture. She uses color contrast and patterns to make the image more interesting. In each photo, the background or the subject is darker or lighter than the other.
In the second image, she chose to have the subject wear a patterned dress and stand in the middle of bushes. The leaves from the background outlines the shape of the girl. The patterns on her dress project outwards causing the eye to move in multiple ways around the image. By choosing to position her in that way, she draws the attention to the knife in the girls hand and the expression on her face.
I enjoy her photos because of the color contrast and patterns. The third photo, I like the how the color vibrance of the flower is reflected on to the pattern of the boxers. I also like how she painted the boy in the first image. She blended it very well allowing the blue to look as if it was the the direction the lighting is cast on him, even though it was daylight.
