Jennifer Maddox - weekly post

Jasper White

What are the artist's technical choices?
White used a deep depth of field to capture the view of the Eiffel Tower from strangers homes. In many of his photos I believe he moved items into the photo. For example, the last photo he probably moved the teal pot onto the balcony to contrast the red surrounding it.

What are the artist's conceptual and/or thematic intents?
The Eiffel Tower is an iconic image that many people travel to visit and take a photo. White decided to take a different approach to viewing the Tower. He wanted to show the view the residents of Paris see of the Tower as they look out their windows. He has photos of the Tower in different angles and distances.

How do you respond to these choices and intents?
I really enjoy his photos because it brings life to the Eiffel Tower. It shows it in a way where it is more than just an icon. Viewing the Tower from different windows throughout the city is a new refreshing way to see it. Also, I like how his decision to keep some of the room in the photo rather than just the tower.
