Skylar Coleman - Weekly Artist

Ray Collins

  1. These photos capture movement, light, and color. The way the sun reflects off of the water and creates a glowing effect while also penetrating through the water creating beautiful shades of greens and blues that make the water appear like glass. His use shutter speed, aperture, and ISO all come together perfectly to capture these still moments frozen in time.
  2. Ray Collins is an ocean photographer that enjoys capturing the moment of a wave right before its breaking point. He goes to the beach every morning to get these perfect shots for a series  and recently published book called Found at Sea. Collins is also color blind.
  3. I am always attracted to ocean / water based photographs so these instantly caught my attention. The way the lighting creates the jewel like look of the waves is breathtaking. The movement caught in the second image with the bright aquas and teals appears almost fake and shows the fast motion of a wave. The other two are caught perfectly in the moment before they break and shows the true beauty of an uncontrolled environment.
