Matt Thyssen - Weekly Artist Post

Daniel Fedorshik

1. In this set, the artist's technical decisions include shooting in low light.  The photos are not heavily saturated, but still deep.  The subjects are all well framed, and are well separated from the background.  She did a good job at directing the subjects too, these are not simple snapshots, and they're not obviously directed either. The facial expressions and distant gazes make an interesting portrait.

2. The thematic intents in this set are obvious, to portray the feeling of the music these guys make, visually.  The music is very dark and lonesome, and the intent of these images was to capture that.

3. I respond well to these images and their intent.  I believe she does a very good job at visually representing the music.  These images make me feel the same way the music does, so she was spot on.  I really like the last picture, how she took it at the perfect moment to capture that skull emanating from the cigarette smoke, that's just perfect.  Even without hearing the music, you can get an idea of what it sounds like just from seeing these pictures.
