Ashanti Neverson - Weekly Artist Post 9

Arthur Tress

1.) The photographer decided to take photos of images described from children's nightmares. These photos were taken in black and white, presumably digital. The subjects seem close with the photographer three to six feet away. All of the photos seem to be naturally lighted.

2.) Since the photos are staged to recreate the images of nightmares, it makes sense for the photos to be in black and white since most times it is very hard to distinguish all the details of our dreams, like colors or faces. The black and white add on to the eerie feel of these photos. In the first the dark figure looks like it is taking the boy away while standing in the middle of the walkway. The second image only shows the boys' silhouettes by having them in front of the sun on top of the cage. They almost look like they are birds that have fell out of the sky with their arms stretched out.

3.) Our dreams create very interesting images so to see them recreated was a pleasure. Even though these are nightmares of children they show what our unconscious minds are thinking or worrying about. The first photo reminds me of early death or a youth taken away from his family. The second one reminds me of dreams where I am falling from a great height or even trapped somewhere as the photographer is getting the point of view from someone under some type of cage. These photos show how crazy our dreams can be but there can be some deeper representation of our fears.
