Clarissa Stanley - Weekly Artist Post 9

 Julia Fullerton-Batten

1. It is clear Batten is using some sort of DSLR because of the year the photo was taken, the sharpness of each picture and that she was clearly able to utilize photoshop as its obvious she did not find a girl crouching surrounded by 10 wolves. The scenes are very well thought out and have great contrast of colors, especially in the jungle photos as well as a spectrum of textures.
2. The pictures are in color and exceptionally sharp and clear, this helps the picture to look more realistic despite the fact that they are staged and recreations of what an actual day of the child's may look like. The subjects all seem distracted or in their own element, unaware of the camera, how you expect animals to act when their picture is being taken as they hardly engage the eyes with the camera like humans do.
3. I think this type of photography is important not only because it's real but its something that needs to be talked about, brought up in conversation or in the news, neglect and abuse of children is an issue people should be actively aware of and trying to prevent or stop. I like the investigation and research that the artist had to go through in order to accurately capture the story of each child in each picture.
