Bradley Manley Weekly Artist Post 5

Jo Ann Callis

Jo Ann Callis is a general black and white photographer who captures surreal forms through lighting and angle through her photos. Although she does colored work, black and white is her general media. With the picture being black and white these help Jo capture her form.

Jo Ann Callis seems to under expose her shot. This adds to the dramatic effect black and white can have on her photos. It seems her main focus is form. Trough the available light she has, her photos emphasizes on shadow. Her generally has a shallow, empty background that usually contains a very settle element that makes the photo interesting.

I enjoy looking at her photos. I can learn a lot about lighting and form. I enjoy how Jo is able to use very settle elements with objects, creating a surrealism image. Her photos to me look almost like negatives, which creates an interesting play on lighting. I would like to see how she makes photos.
