Bri Picone - Weekly Post 5.2

1) Thomas Barrow's approach of scratching an 'X' onto his negatives symbolizes the artist's role in making images by depicting the landscape as a manipulated scene.  His carving into the negatives emphasizes and dramatizes the relationship between artists and the natural world and draws attention to photographs as material objects.

2) Jerry N. Uelsmann creates a surrealist image by combining an indoor and outdoor scene.  In the darkroom, he combines his negatives to explore the relationship of a manmade and natural world.  This image feels dreamlike and the chaise lounge and open book suggest a way of entering into this world.
