Bri Picone - Weekly Post 4

Michael Seif

1) Michael Seif's photos are well balanced and have good composition.  His images have a soft focus and there is emphasis on shape, form, and light.  He works in black and white and color.  In this series Figures in Water, the figures stand out against a dark background of water, forcing the viewer to focus on the movements of the figures.

2)  Seif created this series to convey beauty of the body in motion.  The surface of the water contains glimmers and swirls that show signs of motion to reveal that the figure is an active, living thing.  The figures are nude maybe to imply a connection with nature and pure human form.

3)  I find these photos beautiful and meditative.  Not only are they appealing to the eye because of their composition, but they also show us calm, fluid motion.  To me these images are calming and comforting.  I like that the background is simple and takes the figures away from a specific place.  It leaves the viewer to create their own idea of where the figures are in time/place.
