Mollie Schaidt- Weekly blog 5 Land (part 2)

1. The first two images photographed by William Christenberry is of the same landscape through the passage of time. Christenberry visited this same BBQ shack in Hale County, Alabama over the course of years. Christenberry was apparently drawn to the shacks relationship to the surrounding landscape. The work gives a sense of place, and the passage of time through documenting something proving its existence. If the photo wasn't taken was it really there?

2. The third image is photographed by Sally Mann of the battlefield at Antietam. She used the same process as Civil War photographers would, collodion-coated glass plate negative. This image is different from typical battlefield photography not focusing on the fields where blood was shed, but its haunting memory. Mann focused on the history of the landscape giving the image emotion and a sense of darkness.
