Joey Scolieri - Weekly Artist Post 13

Sebastien Laval

  1. Sebastien Laval took all of the photographs in this series at night with a really slow shutter speed to be able to capture the light trails from all of the moving vehicles. The photos also had to be taken with the use of a tripod. All of the photos are extremely sharp and well lit.
  2. Laval attempted to capture the beauty and constant hustle of the city of Hanoi at night. He used the slow shutter speed technique to give all of his photos a sense of motion inside the frames. All of the buildings and objects stay in focus while the people move about the night. All of the people in the photos have some sort of blur to them because they were in motion during the duration of the shot and that is the essence of the city Laval is attempting to capture. The colors inside of the photos are highly vibrant despite being taken during night.
  3. The motion inside of the photos captures my eye right away. I have always wanted to take photographs like this and it is great to finally find a photographer who uses this technique successfully. His intent from this series was to capture the beauty of nighttime in Hanoi and I believe he achieves this without a doubt. Each photo shows a different side to Hanoi and the way that Laval captures the buildings and colors really highlight the essence of the city.
