Mayteana Colon weekly post 14

Walker evans

1) Evans takes his pictures with a polaroid camera. His focus in these pictures are portraits. It seems like he is using the flash and is right next to his subjects probably only a few feet from them. The setting of his portraits are dark and evoke a sense of hardship and struggle.

2) In the first image the subject is giving the viewer a look of mystery and forboding. He seems like he has a hidden story and that is matched by his hair being in his face cutting off a full view to his true self. The second image is very different from the first its frontal and in your face. It feels like she is exposing herself and showing the camera all and her true self. The last image the women is looking away from the camera looking like she is avoiding showing anything of herself. She look like she is contemplating a dilemma or a struggle.

3) The reason why i chose these images is because i am exploring the limits of the my own personal portraits. I like how these images are not the steriotypical portrait and evoke different emotions in the viewer. these images are interesting and dynamic.
