Kat Hennessy Weekly Post [Week 12]

Aaron Hobson

Aaron Hobson uses dramatic lighting and lowlight to capture the essence of his photographs. His portraits, though they seem directed, aim to capture a casual, seemingly snapshot moment in the subjects life. Many of his subjects appear to be in mid task, such as lighting a cigarette.

Perhaps he intends to evoke the feeling that we, as the viewer, are seeing a more personal moment in the subjects life. They are often not with anyone or only with one other person- giving the idea that it is a more personal scene. They are also often in a remote landscape or within a private building- maybe their house. This coupled with his use of low or dramatic lighting further pushes the idea of a dark, personal moment being caught on camera.
