Mary Morris weekly post

Lance Keimig is a teacher of night photography and light painting photography. He teaches at the New England School of Photography in Boston. He became educated in photography during his lectures at the Academy of Art University. His photographs are almost completely landscape photos. The three pictures above are from his series - Iceland: almost black and white. The artist decided to have these photos in black and white except for one or two colors.
The concept of the almost black and white is interesting because he didn't just desaturate, he chose to have some of his image in black and white. Perhaps he does this to establish what he wants the viewer to see at the focal point. He could have also done this to set the mood of each photograph. Many of his images have reds and blues as the colors. Red is a color for passion while blue is serene and reminds us of the ocean. Either way, Keimig is definitely trying to set some sort of mood in this series. I believe that it makes the photographs look more fantasy-esque.
