Melanie Acevedo is a New York based life-style portrait photographer. These three pictures are part of Acevedos on going project, Another 52 Weeks. This series captures the daily life of her children each week, thus creating a 52 week family photo album. Acevedo began this project four years ago and has captured many seasons, times of pain, moments of learning, and lots of joy. She narrates each image with one statement, so the series reads like a diary. Acevedo wrote on her blog that she wanted her children to see themselves how she saw them, since these memories can fade. After being a commercial photographer for years, she started to feel like there were moments in the normal everyday part of her life that she was overlooking.
This picture series was extremely beautiful and inspiration to me. Many times I find myself house-bound while my baby naps, sitting in his play room supervising him while he learns to play on his own, helping him learn to individually turn the pages of his favorite books, and sometimes just taking a moment to stare at him while he sleeps peacefully. This series challenges me as a mother to find these beautiful moments and to make it my goal to preserve the small miracles injected within ordinary days.
