Alex Fradkin is a native to California but now lives in New York City, he began his photography career in 1996. He earned his MFA at Columbia College Chicago in fine art and documentary photography. These photos he took are from his five year long book project to photograph the changing California coastline and its people. Started in 2006 and all his photos were taken with a large format camera. These images the Fradkin captured on his journey are remarkable and moving. They really show how powerful and destructive the coast can be. But yet it also shows a side that is peaceful and portrays a relaxing pastime of surfing on the California coast. I really like the photo of the old roller coaster that was taken by the fog and ultimately the ocean. His photo give the sense of darkness to the ocean and how powerful it can be. We as humans take it for granted and don't protect it like we should.
One thing i would like learn from his skill of photography is to be able to capture how powerful the oceans and weather can be to our coastlines and if we don't act now we might might not have them to much longer.
