Sarah Widenhofer - Weekly Post #3

Agnes Thor is a Swedish artist who shares her time between both Sweden and New York City. She utilizes anything she can find around her as a subject for her photographs, and she explains that she focuses on the nature of things.  The photos shown above are from an ongoing series titled "La Mort La Vie," where Thor investigates aspects of life and death. Her photographs tend to be somewhat inconsistent in formality, but as a whole they work together.  She chooses to shoot in both analog and digital to capture whatever details she sees fit.

Life and death is a broad concept that allows for a lot of interesting and thought provoking photographs. Throughout "La Mort La Vie" Agnes Thor explores concepts, myths and rituals pertaining to these moments.  She photographs anything from graves and burial rituals, or lucky charms related to life or death, to ideas such as eternal youth.  Her photographs portray the idea that life and death is natural and everywhere.  It can be creepy or whimsical, yet it will always surround us.
