Joann Callis born in 1940 started her art studies in Ohio during the 1950's in high school. Jo ann originally started her undergrad degree at Ohio University; however received both her undergraduate and graduate degree from UCLA. She is known for her avant-garde style of art and is known internationally.
Callis's photography consist of funky intimate situations. Something as a doughnut can be intimate. In the picture the doughnut appears to be on top of possibly a bed sheet. which to me is pretty intimate. I think she also focuses on different types of lighting. there is light and darkness in most of her photographs. Or at least there seems to be shadows or this elude to the "unknown".
