Olivia Parker graduated with an Art History degree from Wellesley College. After graduation, she began her career as a painter. In 1970, she shifted her career choice to photography. From 1990-1996 she created her series called "Eye and Idea." The photographs in this series are of mundane objects given a new purpose. The entire series is in black and white with a high contrast. Each of these photos also has a black background to emphasize the subject being photographed.
The series "Eye and Idea" is compiled of two to three objects given a new purpose when put together. For example, flowers are typically put into a vase. However, Parker made the decision to put them in a coffee mug. I believe Parker is trying to tell us that the objects we use in our everyday life can have more than one purpose or can be viewed from a different perspective.
