Sarah Widenhofer - Weekly Post #4

Karolina Karlic is a Polish photographer who focuses on creating images of American culture, especially American culture related to immigration. All of her work is created with a 4x5 large format camera, which she scans and then outputs digitally. Her work uses a variety of aperature settings depending on her subject to show important details.  Her work includes both landscapes and portraits to tell a story of a state as a whole.

Her work shown above is from a series titled "Rockin' the Bakken," where she has photographed Williston, North Dakota. Karlic wanted to bring the viewers attention to the oil boom and the effects it has on the state and the people experiencing it. As a child of immigration herself, I find Karlic's insight to be personal yet very real and related to the viewers.
