Sarah Widenhofer - Weekly Post #2

Tomas Januska is a Lithuania born photography student and freelance artist working out of London.  He began to consider himself a photographer in 2009 when he received his first camera.  He began making portraits and has recently moved on to his series seen above titled "Gravity." This series is shot in black and white, using only one and two flash set ups. Januska focuses the viewer on the human body, which is centered in the middle of the image. His subjects range from males to females wearing anything from pajamas to their work attire. The subject essentially is jumping and the artist is interested in how the figure appears as gravity brings them back to the ground.

The images are aesthetically appealing because they give a sense of weightlessness. Jumping and gravity are words which usually leave an idea of clumsiness or pain to a readers mind; however, in these photos jumping and gravity are shown as graceful and appealing.  The photographs leave the viewer wanting to feel the sensations the subject are feeling.  To be weightless is appealing all in its own.
