In her "The Burn" series, Fulton makes 15x15 photos of a controlled prairie burn. She uses the way the smoke plays with the light to her advantage.
Fulton uses disaster and destruction as a recurring theme in her work, with series's on subjects like Katrina, oil spills and 9-11. She tends focus on the aftermath and in this series she focuses on the good that comes from the destruction of the fire. A controlled fire is used to destroy invasive plant life and takes something violent and uses it for good.
I would like to experience some of the things Fulton has experienced. Observing things like a controlled burn are fascinating.
