Brandon Hamlet Weekly Blog #3 Part 1

Atiba Jefferson

Atiba Jefferson, a well known photographer, started his career by taking photographs of skateboarding. Skateboarding photography is difficult because you not only have to capture the surroundings of what ever obstacle the skater is using, but capture a moving person at the exact time you think that the trick will be readable to the audience. In the top picture it appears that there was a flash used to guide the audiences eye to the skateboarder. The second photo had to take time because the lighting was a key factor to the outcome of this photo. Another choice that seems to be evident is the use of a telephoto lens, because of the way they are zoomed in on the skater.
These pictures were taken to capture and freeze a moment for a skateboarder that is one of the best feelings for them. Landing a trick to someone who doesn't skateboard may look easy but his particular audience is not people who don't skateboard. The reason for these photos was to document a trick that has not been on the certain obstacle of choice.
