Weekly Post #3

Jackie Shumaker has had more than twenty years of experience almost exclusively photographing industry across the United States. Working with several major companies, she aims to capture the innovation and progress such places are meant to represent. Her photos primarily focus on the industries themselves instead of the impact they have on the environment and surrounding community.

Shumaker's reflect the bright future proposed by America's industrial machine: clean lines, geometric shapes, and bright (almost overexposed) lighting give her photos an air of hope and optimism. The environments depicted in her portfolio  have a sterile, almost hospital-like quality, which is very much at odds with the rugged, filthy backdrop of most industrial landscapes. They are also, with few to no exceptions, devoid of people, leaving the possibilities of what these factories, corporate offices, and power plants are capable of when in full operation to the imagination.
