Sarah Widenhofer - Weekly Post #5

John Divola is a California based contemporary visual artist. He received his master of fine arts degree from the University of California in 1974. In his works above, Divola created images in black and white, with his subject matter moving at quick speeds.  He varied his shutter speed and aperture in almost every one of his shots to depict different motion, quality, and subject.

The series above is quite literally titled "Dogs Chasing My Car in the Deserts." To some the works may seem a bit boring, but I find them poetic.  The dogs have very little stimuli in an isolated desert, and they run wildly after the car.  By Divola capturing this moment, he tells a story of loneliness and presence, how the dogs are consumed by the kinetic dance of them and the car, though they will never catch up to it.
