Shannon Olson- Weekly Post #2

Florian Ritter was born in 1981 in Nieder Erlenbach, Germany. Having obtained skills in drawing and illustration at age seven, Ritter moved on to study other media, namely advertising. His love for photography blossomed in 2007 and he soon found his niche capturing people and landscapes around the world. He currently lives in Shanghai, China where he runs PRISMO, a production company that specializes in commercial photography and graphic design.

Florian Ritter's landscapes/cityscapes are immensely appealing: all of them are crisp and brimming with detail, compelling the viewer to remain and decipher whatever meaning they choose to derive from the intricacies of each picture. Ritter's work is cast in darkness or stark contrast, taking advantage of rays of sunlight to brighten up the landscape, effectively bringing it to life. This is also exemplified by his incorporation of overcast clouds in many of his pictures, masking natural light and enhancing shadows to add depth to his subjects - both physical and metaphorical. His images bring forth a sense of majesty (as well as a slight sense of foreboding in some cases) as a result of such deliberate artistic choices.
