Week 2 Weekly Post

Anthony Hernandez

The series, "Rodeo Drive" was captured in the 1980's and published over 20 years after, in 2012. The series depicts the local inhabitants of what is famously known now as Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills. Throughout the images the viewer is placed into intimate settings. In some of his photos Hernandez is able to capture moments of people during conversations, or social activity where the subject is unaware that they are being photographed. This technique gives the viewer an inside view into the lives of those who frequented Rodeo Drive.

Another aspect of this series that I was drawn to is that the subject of consumerism throughout the series is still relevant now. When I hear of Rodeo Drive, this is exactly how I have seen it and how I picture it being right now. The attire or style of clothing may have changed but the object of being there is the same. Hernandez was born in 1947, in Los Angeles California. He has shown internationally and is currently on exhibition at the Pasadena Art Museum and will be showing at the San Francisco Museum of Art in the near future.
