Robert Lamb weekly post 3

Michael Maller, is a well-known American photographer. He is best known for his work with many celebrities (ranging from actors to musicians) including Kem, Rihanna, & Pharrell Williams. All of the images above are from his “Expedition” gallery. Unfortunately on his website I could not find any information on the reason behind his work or what inspires him when he is creating it. But these three pictures that differ so much from his “well-known work” shows what extreme lengths he will go to in order to capture the right image.
From what I have seen with this gallery in particular is that he often time uses the light coming in through the water to naturally enhance his photos. One example of this would be the first picture in which you can see rays of sun light gleaming down on the shark. In my opinion this gives the image a more majestic and impactful feel. Another example would be the last picture in which he is under the unidentified animal, with the sun directly above it creating a full body shadow making the animal almost seem two dimensional. For me it's know question that Michael Maller is an image maker, by going beyond what is called for and using what nature gives to his advantage.
