DAVID LACHAPELLE

1. The Neo-Pop and Photoshop series was done in 2007 by David LaChapelle. He used copies of photos taken by other photographers. He would alter the photos color, subject positions, and overall meanings in order to go against tradition. He would transform the image entirely in order to give viewers a chance to see what society doesnt  like  to show.
2. Andy Warhol was David LaChapelle's idol. He sought to diminish and paraphrase the archetypes of history. With this series, he wanted to chance the image of the ideal celebrity portrait. He used the ideally lustful poses and made them more provocative and revealing. For example, In the image of Lady GaGa above, he added cuts with dried blood and shameful descriptions to present the image of self harm.
 3. I think this series ultimately displays a real powerful message. It changes the way celebrities are usually perceived. I believe he breaks their social image. I am use to seeing Lady Gaga in a crazy outfit or in a theatrical outfit. I believed he showed what she might have been through in her past or maybe her true feelings. This series brings the idea of celebrities back down to reality making them seem like regular people.
