Jennifer Maddox - Weekly post

Thilde Jensen

1) Thilde Jensen used a 35mm focal length camera. She used 72 dpi resolution and a dimension of 1017 x 475 pixels. She used a medium format film so it makes high quality and large scale photos.

2) In her series The Canaries she uses a thematic and conceptual approach to address the issue of Environmental Illness. She calls herself and others having this condition 'the canaries' because in the past when men would go down into the mine, they would bring a canary. If the canary died they knew the environment was not safe. She seems to be suggesting that people living with this condition are our 'canaries.'

3) I enjoy viewing her photos about this condition because it truly displays the conditions in which they must live. I also enjoy how she related the name of her photos to link this to actions in the past. These pictures shed a new light on what life is like for some people, like for the woman who can not be in the sunlight and the struggle.
