Ryan Jennings Weekly Artist Post

Amos Chapple

1.  Amos Chapple is a New-Zealand based travel photographer that traveled to a Russian village called Oymyakon.  This village is known for being the coldest place in the world.  The winter temperature averages -58 degrees Fahrenheit, but have been know to go as low as -88 degrees.  Amos traveled to this village to capture daily life of the local population of Oymyakon.

2.  Amos wanted to capture the daily activities of this people and show how despite the insanely low temperatures, the people of Oymyakon do maintain a pretty normal life.  The people have jobs, the kids go to school and the farmers tend to their crops.  Amos only had a few hours a day to capture these moments due to only having 3 hours of daylight per day.

3.  Amos Chapple did a wonderful job with the resources he had.  The images definitely give you the sense of coldness shown through the freezing ice and bundled up people in the pictures.  The intent to show that life goes on even in subzero temperatures was captured well by showing people working, smiling, and going about their day to day duties.
