Fong Qi Wei has been photographer for 10 yrs and is based in Singapore. In his artist statement he mentions his fascination with intersections, places where boundaries break down and interesting things happen. In this series he explores the idea of disassembly, inspired by the work of Todd McLellan.
Most of the shots are staged and done in a studio setting. He manipulates in order to compose. He mentions that time is also a factor. The petals can only last for so long once plucked, an ideal once held within the great Vanitas paintings of the Baroque Dutch Republic.
I find it interesting that he took something, disassembled it, only to make a picture of a completely different "wholeness". He's composing color, lines, and even light by emphasizing the form of the petals with shadows.
