Henry Hargreaves, originally from New Zealand, started out as a model for top fashion houses like YSL, Jil Sander, Prada, and etc. He uses a lot of lighting tricks from his modeling days but his subjects tend to be more about food. He also does mostly collaborations, like this series about Rothko inspired rice paintings dine by chef/stylist Caitlin Levin.
They decided to do this piece after a defacing of 'Maroon on Black' by Rothko in the Tate Modern. Originally Rothko was commissioned to make work for the Four Seasons restaurant, the top of the fine dining world at the time. Rothko claimed that he wanted to ruin people's appetite with his visuals so the decision to remake the images with food is seriously ironic.
I find it interesting that Hargreaves doesn't make fashion pictures, let alone people. His use of food and making it interesting is amazing. With his collaboration though its mainly the other person bringing about the manipulations of scenes.
