Ashanti Neverson - Weekly Artist Post 6

Nicola “Ókin” Frioli

1.) For this shoot the photographer uses a digital camera. She has the subjects against a black backdrop with what seems like a single light source giving the subjects a spotlight effect. She seems to be in a three to six feet range from the subjects. The colors pop against the black back drop making you focus on the subjects.

2.) The photographer uses a single light source, creating a spotlight effect. This could be a metaphor for "shining light on the issue". The photographer wants to show the side of immigration from the immigrants' point of view. The second picture shows the woman's scar from crossing the border and running away from an attack. The first shows a young woman and her three children she had to carry during her journey. The last picture shows the lack of resources but the ingenuity they have in order to survive.

3.) I felt these pictures shed a different light on the issue since it is from the actual immigrant's point of view and not the media's. In the media we never get to see how much pain and suffering they go through just to move to a different country. It shows me my privileges that I take for granted and makes you think of what would be a solution to this problem.
