These photos were taken by the American photographer Philippe Halsman. The first photo of the soldier looks to be from a movie judging by the soldiers facial expression; it seems almost comical and unauthentic. Halsman used a tripod and stood about four feet away from the soldier/actor. The second photo shows Salvador Dali standing in front of a giant leopard skull. The kicker is that the skull is formed from the bodies of seven beautiful women. these photos look to be two separate photos merged together to make one image. The third photo is of Salvador Dali painting a picture in a surreal environment. how this was achieved I do not know for certain.

The first photo of the soldier is meant to instill some comedic feeling in the audience as well as remind them of the effects of war. The second photo is used to show vast creativity as well as beauty and morbidity. The third photo was to show how whimsical and surreal photography can be.

The first photo gives me a warm and inviting feeling like the one where one of your family members offers to tell a joke. But it also tells me that this man has seen it all, and is about to see more of it.The second photo of the seven women forming the skull behind an almost terrified looking Salvador Dali looks beautiful and yet so disturbing. What is Halsman trying to tell us through this photo? The last photo of the man painting a picture is very interesting in terms of it's perspective, angle and lighting. All the other whimsical niceties, such as the cats and stream of water leaping from the canvas, are just icing on the cake.
