Megan Wingfield - Weekly Artist Post 5

Lisa Barnard takes her photographs straight on.  Barnard uses digital photography to take all of her pieces. They are typically centered and have subtle neutral colors. They are all taken outside in remotely deserted places. She stands rather far away from what she is capturing.

The first photo shows dirt along the bottom with an old mural of a beach with a palm tree off to the right side. The second picture shows a pretty vacant casino with a clear blue sky above it. The last photo shows a car covered alone, with a beautiful view of the mountains in the background. All of these photos symbolize being alone by how there are no people present and how she really only photographs one subject. The cover over the car shows that no ones been there for awhile. But all of the photos show some sort of paradise, i.e. the palm tree, the calming sky and the beautiful mountains.

I feel like Lisa Barnard was trying to show people that one does not have to depend on others for happiness. Happiness comes from within. Everyone has their own type of paradise in their heads. I enjoy looking at Lisa's artwork because she photographs simple objects that have a deeper overall meaning to them that in result make me think about them.
