Parker Austin Weekly post #5

Watanabe Katsumi

1) Watanabe Katsumi's pictures are all portrait shots of gang members, drag queens, and prostitutes. Black and white photos and are all taken from about 5 feet back. there is an obvious subject in all 3 pictures along with all his others. and the different angles they are taken from change the perspective of how these people are seen.
2) Using the black and white really gives a feeling of dreary and cold lifestyles for these people. They are all shots taken almost like they were caught off guard and unwanted. The woman stand out more to to it being so close up and her having more detail on her face. but the tattoos in the other 2 are what catch attention.
3) I feel intimidated looking at the last 2 pictures due to the empty expression of an empty shell of a person and the body language and tattoos. The picture with the girl make me feel offput from the way she is staring at the camera. almost like she has never seen a camera. The whole collection make me uneasy.
