LEE JEFFERIES #1

1.)
Lee Jefferies technical choices are nothing short of genius. He chooses underexposure to diminish the back light in his photos. He shoots with a 5D camera.
The camera possesses a 70-200 lens. The effect his technicality has on his photos cause them to stand out more. His photos are almost always in black and white.
This factor alone strips the photos of distraction. Low lighting, and heavy shadows are the authenticity that gives his photos that extra push of originality and individualism.

  2.)
Jefferies main subjects for his photos are Homeless people. For each photo, a conversation was held. He doesn't write down notes while these conversations are being held.
He just talks to them about their situations, and how they ended up homeless. After questions are asked and answered, he has a better understanding of his subjects.
The understanding for them makes it easier for him to take their pictures.

I think his conceptual intent is to make you look, become curious, figure things out, and then help.

3.) how do you respond to these choices and intents?
Well i was enamored by his portraits. I was completely mesmerized. The moment i saw one picture, I had to see another.  Its obvious that this man takes stunning pictures.
I feel his true  intent is to raise awareness for the homeless community, and i think he has done an exceptional job. The honesty, gruesomeness, and pain that these photos possess are truly captivating. His choices are wise and strategic. His photos are so powerful that they have caused me to become emotional, sympathetic, and aware. To release that energy onto somebody you don't even
know because of the dynamics of your portrait is a talent indeed.
