1. I chose the artist Helen Levitt, as my first choice artist to critically blog about. Levitt, from these picture specifically, presents them in black and white for a more dramatic effect. She shoots from a close range, with enough space to capture her main subjects, and enough background to correlate with these subjects in ways to form even more of a story. She enjoys capturing moving stories. Her pictures are "live," so to say, in terms with her subjects all enduring in some form of activity as if the camera were not there.

2. I believe Helen is attempting to portray the lifestyle of the less-fortunate children. Children who live in poorer areas of the world, she wanted to show how they endure in their everyday social functions. She wanted to capture the joy of community in a somewhat harsher environment. The children grow and learn to live together in these areas, and she captures them in a state of innocence, as if they are not even aware of their own living conditions and how it compares to one of a better status or structure. Her shots are raw, and I enjoy the idea of capturing the life in action of innocent child finding a way to enjoy their surroundings.

3. I believe Helen to be a wonderful and brilliant photographer. I enjoy seeing children in their natural habitat, free of realizing how cold the world really is. I admire the fact that she made the pictures dramatic with the black and white, but still managed to capture a since of peace, where one would think there is not much of. She is talented in portraying a feeling of nostalgia during this day of age. These pictures take us back to a day of innocence.

1. These pictures were taken by Jerry Bendt. A talented artist who portrayed black and white imagery to capture a dramatic scene from an older time. He used live-in action shots with the subjects enduring in their activities. The pictures he took tell a story from this time period. With close shots providing a certain lead into believing a certain notion, with a follow up of a longer shot to give one full availability of the entire scenery.

2. The artist did a wonderful job on telling the story within these shots. (‘The Combat Zone’: the name given to the roughest area in Boston at the end of the 1960s, full of violence, sexual exploitation and racial war. The only refuge was the counter of a bar or a games arcade, offering brief moments of respite before heading out again onto the streets.) I found this insert at www.timeout.com
The artist caught the idea of fun and recklessness that came with their lifestyle of the time. It may seem as if they are having fun, but in life there is always good that comes with bad, so further into his photographs one begins to see the real struggle that comes from the "fun-filled" lifestyles. The artist does a great job on showing the impact that society has left on its people during this time.

3. I believe the artist did a great job of analyzing what the "streets" looked like at this apparent time of a rougher lifestyle. With shots portraying a since of appeal through a careless way of living. Just the shots from the interracial sex appeal given depicts a time of heavy living, that in turn led to people with more confidence in their surroundings. This is especially done through the views of the confidence portrayed with the man in a dented and abused vehicle, who does not let this affect him from still entertaining the woman in the backseat of the car.

1. My next blog addition is on the great photographer Garry Winogrand. In these pictures that came from a series called "woman are beautiful;" the artist also depicts his imagery in black and white for a more costly effect. With shots ranging from close-up to close with a greater distance.
The artist captured solo shots and group shots, all with some-sort of dialect depicting the everyday life of a random woman.

2. Winogrand, shows us the pure and natural beauty that is given from the average woman. He shows the relationship women share with the world and how women come to interact with it. These pictures are as if they are just a "day-in-the-life-of" a normal woman. These pictures specifically depict a certain type of woman however. Each of them showing a woman with a skinnier figure, but he captures the real life moment of the women. Stating that in their most raw state, women even then are beautiful creatures.

3. Personally, these pictures are so simple and natural that they in turn give off a complex overview of the reason why they were created. I feel the artist is collectively bringing to light the many influences that woman are subjected to on a regular basis. The artist is defining who the woman is as an individual and as an entirety. Which I do have much appreciation for.
