Taylor Parnell Blog 4

Shirley Baker takes her photographs in a form of a narrative story, rather than on a cool picture or just to take photographs. In her photos she tries to catch the issues in poverty that these cultures or communities are going through. Her photos are to tell a narrative and thematic view rather than a story or rather than in sequence.

Shirley never posed or had anyone pose for her photographs, she just took them as she saw them which makes it look so real and as if no one was there taking their pictures. Her photographs conveys a sense of the passing of time and of loss that we just look by in life. It is amazing to be able to capture these photos of children still playing outside and all getting along.

These photographs made me look into her other photographs that she made as well. Her photos are surreal and with the vintage look she gave them, made it look real and as if we were back in the old days from how the parents and children are dressed as well as sitting outside on the sidewalk playing, which you defiantly do not see anymore in today's society.
